O.K.
so you've kopje-hopped the Serengeti, barged your
way through the minibus melee of the Mara and satiated your elephant-fetish
in Chobe. You've bought the khaki shorts and that waistcoat with
all the pockets, you've invested in the bird identification books
and you know a few words of an exotic African tribal language -
and you want to use them, goddammit. You need to try something a
little different. |

In
addition to the acclaimed National Parks of the Northern Circuit, Tanzania
can boast some premier wilderness areas and lesser-known National parks to
seduce and impress the most experienced safari-hand. The East African Safari
And Touring Company can take those prepared to wash down their safari experience
with a little adventurous spirit and a desire for the remote wilderness, to
areas far away from the well-beaten tracks of the main circuits. The parks
of Saadani, Mikumi, Ruaha, Rubondo Island, Katavi and Mahale might not have
the kudos of the Northern Circuit but they have the game (and the Kudus, we
hasten to add), the eco-systems, the isolation and the sensation of being
alone with Africa. So, if you want a little variety in your safari, and decide
on some chimpanzees then we will take you to Mahale; game-fishing, chimp habituation
projects and the rare Sitatunga and it has to be Rubondo Island; then there's
vast herds of mammals without the herds of humans (Ruaha), lions on the beach
(Saadani), boats along croc-infested rivers (Selous)- anyway, I think you
get the picture. These areas are linked by small charter flights, the odd
scheduled flight, the occasional long drive in our 4WD safari vehicles and
maybe a train ride. It depends on what you choose..

Likewise,
the accommodation. It might be our own safari fly-camp, carefully
blended into the surrounding landscape for our privileged viewing
with minimum disruption for the animals. It's the only way to be
certain of being at the very core of the wildlife experience but
it must be done properly. Our experienced and efficient safari crews
ensure our adventure does not lack the elemental comforts of a holiday
so that our isolation is not at the expense of a certain, deserved
contentment. If it is that pioneering, adventurous feeling that
spurred on the early settlers and explorers, then this is the surest
way to recapture it.

Then
again, there is also the luxury camp, a collection of permanent dwellings
that have been built using local materials, African craftsmen and a little
architectural eccentricity, to create a unique experience deep in the
safari gamelands. Your bed might be in a treehouse, a beachside fisherman's
hut, a converted colonial residence or a straw hut straight out of the
Swiss Family Robinson. If you fancy trying something a little out of the
ordinary, contact us and see if we don't provide you with a bed that will
keep you in dinner invitations for years. |
