Before
1956, the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Conservation Area was one
vast national park. It was in 1956 that Ngorongoro was separated
to form the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, an area in which
the local Masai communities share the grazing land with the
wandering wildebeest. Together, Serengeti and Ngorongoro provides
the visitor with such a diverse range of habitat; the Ngorongoro
caldera, the vast "endless plains"
of the Serengeti, acacia forests of the northern and central
Seronera area, and the
tropical forests of the crater highlands. Walking safaris,
camping in the wilderness, game
viewing on the plains, and abundance of wildlife and, of course,
the truly unique
wildebeest migration. Is it any wonder that whoever comes
to Tanzania, spends at least some time in either Ngorongoro
or the Serengeti?
