| Founded in 1992, The East African Safari And Touring Company started life as a one-car/one staff outfit intent on plugging the gap that existed between the budget safari market and that of the luxury safari. The recognition of a growing middle market, that sought the reliability of the upmarket operators without the exclusivity of price and attitude that accompanied it, was an important thread of the business ethos. The modus operandi reflected this philosophy, using high-quality camping equipment, custom-built 4WD Safari vehicles and a personal attention to the client’s needs so as to carve a reputation for EASTCO as an operator of integrity, dynamism and versatility. | ||||||||||
| We are still building on this reputation. Our offices in Central Arusha, workshop and stores in Sakina, are staffed by a helpful, friendly and qualified team keen to turn a clients’ enquiry into the safari of a lifetime. Equipped with all modern communication techniques, including a website for the curious client abroad, we make the preparation and planning of each itinerary convenient and free of the hassle that normally blights communication in developing countries. We have nine specially-converted Land Rover 110/TDI’s for clients use on safari, each equipped with viewing hatch, bucket seats (adjacent to window), recharging sockets and optional fridge. Two of these vehicles are stretch Land Rovers with extended chassis seating six clients and the remainder seat from two-to-five depending on needs. All are 4WD. In addition there are two support Land Rovers and a Land Rover 101 V8 Forward Control as a back-up and equipment carrier. In the unlikely event of a breakdown, we can find back-up vehicles from any one of a network of suppliers dotted around the principal safari areas. There is a fully equipped workshop and stores in the suburbs of Arusha and we have privileged access to workshop facilities in Kampala and Nairobi. All camping equipment is from South Africa and consists of walk-in dome tents, specially constructed for use on safari, with veranda and mosquito netting on all windows and doors. We provide green canvas fisherman’s stools, canvas washstands, large mess tents and toilet/shower tents, where National Park regulations allow. We also provide cot beds on camping safaris with foam mattresses and clean bedding. A trained safari crew accompany our camping safaris, preparing a wide range of bush food to personal tastes and dietary requirements as well as organising the camps and camp chores. Ultimately it is the driver-guide that determines the success of the safari and we have sought hard to use the best we can find. All our drivers are fluent English-speakers, carry their own set of flora and fauna guidebooks, and have a minimum of five years experience of safaris in the National Parks before we employ them as full-time guides. If there is any further aspect of our operations that has not been covered here but is of interest to you, please do no hesitate to contact our office and we will supply the information that you need so that booking your safari is as efficient and rewarding as possible. | ||||||||||
