Tanzania
is a birder's paradise. There remains few places on Earth where
one can travel from savannah to montane forest, coastal swamp to
rainforest, desert to acacia parkland within a day and encounter
any one of over a thousand bird species. Tanzania offers more bird
species than Ethiopia and Uganda, more endemic species than Kenya
and a very real chance, if recent natural history is to be considered,
of the dedicated birder describing a new species. Since 1980, four
new birds have been described in Tanzania with two others awaiting
formal description. |

The
East African Safari And Touring Company have put together a series of safaris
to showcase this ornithological wealth to the interested visitor. These safaris
embrace the major birding habitats, areas that are often remote and inaccessible
to the casual visitor, but reward those ready for the adventure with a diversity
of birds unparalleled elsewhere in Africa. We primarily focus on those isolated
areas where we are allowed to explore on foot and so do not venture into Tanzania's
acclaimed National Parks, where walking is forbidden and the crowds affect
the habitats. This isolation entitles us to the privileged perspective of
a foot safari well away from the tourist trails, to better concentrate on
the abundant birdlife and exotic habitats that are the sole reason and entire
justification for these safaris.. |

Yet,
whilst we are intent on opening up these often-unvisited areas for the
ornithologist, we still seek to mould the trips around the birders'
needs. Our comfortable safari camps and trained safari crews ensure
that adventure need not be at the cost of comfort; the 4WD vehicles
will always be there to get us into those areas that we intend to explore
on foot; and the specialist guides, both local and international, accompany
us throughout so that there is never any doubt about the suitability
of the habitat nor the true identity of that LBJ

From the
little-known Eastern Arc Mountains that bisect Tanzania to our own Conservation
Area in Tarangire National Park, from the tea estates of the Usambaras
to the mountain forests of Meru, our carefully-crafted itineraries offer
the chance to witness at first hand the diversity of birds in one of Africa's
key endemic areas. We invite you to join us. |
